Inspired by the Music

A couple of years ago I met Simon Zabell, a Spanish artist with whom I collaborated via the internet! Based on my interpretation and commentary of Karlheinz Stockhausen's legendary piano piece "Klavierstück IX", Simon created a series of beautiful paintings that not only thematise the musical structures but also capture the silence and calm of the music! Since then, whenever I play music, I try to imagine landscapes that visualize the sonic landscapes created in music (have a look at my videos:-) Simon and I never met in person, but passionate storytellers seem to find each other no matter how:-)

Three reasons to keep Cologne on your LISTENING RADAR!

Cologne: Cathedral, Funkhaus, Stockhausen & Co... I just spent the day in Cologne with a couple of friends and was fascinated by its energy! 1) The Café 'Funkhaus' in the WDR building: How many cafés do you know in which contemporary music composers are a unique selling point? ;-) Here at the photo you see the menu booklet with pictures of Cage, Stockhausen and Koenig working at the electronic music studios of the WDR. 2) The Creative Energy!: the innovations in the electronic music scene in the 50s made Cologne to one of the most stimulating and forward looking music centers. (Just think of the music inspired through the progressions made in the WDR Studios by: Kraftwerk, Björk, Klaus Schulze, Beatles = even with Stockhausen on the cover of their album Sgt. Pepper!!!) And of course my own music! Check out: M101. 3) The Cathedral ...: No need to say why. Just look at the photo! It is divine, isn't it? I also have to think of the Richter-Window ... What a spectacular art work! By the way, don't forget check out the podcast I did on Stockhausen: Blackbox #002: Listening to Stockhausen’s Klavierstück IX
